The Hidden Power of Kindness

There’s this one verse in the Bible that hits me every time I read it: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)

That’s wild, right? The idea that every interaction matters—that the person in front of you could be way more important than you realize. It’s basically God’s reminder that kindness is never wasted.

As teens and young adults, it’s easy to get caught up in our own circles—friends, sports, school, work, or just keeping up with life. But Hebrews 13:2 challenges us to step outside our bubble. What if the new kid sitting alone at lunch isn’t just someone random, but someone God wants you to notice? What if a simple smile, “hello,” or act of kindness actually shifts the direction of someone’s entire day—or life?

Showing hospitality doesn’t always mean inviting people over for a big dinner (though that’s awesome, too). It’s more about living with open hands and open hearts. It looks like:

  • Holding the door for the person behind you.
  • Checking in on a friend who seems quiet.
  • Treating a stranger with the same respect as your best friend.
  • Offering encouragement when someone is struggling.

The world tells us to look out for ourselves first. But God calls us to love others—even those who don’t look, act, or think like us. That’s what makes your faith shine in real life. And here’s the thing: you never know who’s watching, who needs that light, or how God might use your kindness.

So next time you’re around people—friends, strangers, classmates, coworkers—remember Hebrews 13:2. Choose to be the one who shows love. Who knows? You might be impacting someone heaven sent your way.
